Disproportions in literacy opportunities are impacting children in lower socio-economic households at alarming rates. Limited to no access to books within households and schools, limited to no access to internet at home and at school, and no home technological devices play major roles in poor reading scores. The overall impact of a child not being able to read a book at home at leisure is just not an option for many children. All who are able to read this message can help! The Kelsey and Cambel’s Kids, Inc. Literacy Project is just one pathway to reducing low literacy rates and increasing proficient readers and home libraries for children facing disadvantages. The Kelsey’s and Cambel Kids Care Inc. Literacy Project has a 5 D’s strategy to address the issue of high illiteracy rates amongst children of low socioeconomic households.
